The Leadership Game
Effective and compassionate leadership is vital at every level of health and social care. However, individuals and teams must be nurtured and supported to develop the competencies and behaviours required for effective leadership. The Leadership Game is a unique group-learning resource that helps individuals and teams explore the complexities of collective leadership in a relaxed and creative environment.
The game’s learning content is derived from a leadership model developed as part of a Doctorate in Business Administration (Stansfield, 2017). This model is endorsed and used by the iHV. The underpinning theoretical knowledge enables all health and social care practitioners to understand and participate in collective leadership.
The game has 2 key objectives:
- To support and encourage discussion and learning around leadership roles
- Highlight the need to work together as a team and engage in active listening
“The Leadership Game was developed from my doctoral research on leadership and it makes complex concepts such as collective leadership accessible and meaningful to staff and students. It also provides a fun and interactive approach to learning that can be used with, or without, a facilitator. I use the game regularly in my teaching on leadership with a range of practitioners.”
Dr Karen Stansfield, Associate Dean Enterprise and Engagement, School of Health and Society, University of Salford.
